“Having a prepping service is nothing new, but how many composite door manufacturers offer this service with no restrictions? DOORCO customers can order any slab, design, glazing cassette and glass combination.  And when it comes to colour, in addition to our eight standard slab colours (including Anthracite Grey) and 38 premium colours, we can also supply any RAL colour as a special order.


“A door slab is a complex product, making machining them a difficult process, but we can prep for any lock; any hinge; open in; open out; edgeband painted or not.  The calibre of our team has enabled us to offer this added value service to our customers.  We have the technology and expertise to ensure they are right first time – and if they’re not, that’s our problem!

DOORCO Offers Glazing Service To Give Customers The Bespoke Edge

Glazing ServiceIn response to customer demand, DOORCO has invested in a specialist glazing service to better support customers in the rising popularity of the contemporary composite door.  They are now the only composite door supplier in the UK to offer the Inox, Urban or TriSYS glazing cassette systems as a pre-glazed option to all their Distribution and prepped door customers.

“The key driver behind everything we do at DOORCO is our customers,” explains Dan Sullivan, MD at DOORCO.  “While the desire for more contemporary composite doors grows, so does the complexity of the components required.  Our standard TriSYS cassette, with its unique three-piece frame system, is particularly easy to install – even the most complex of door designs takes minutes – but unfortunately this product is only available in a traditional, woodgrain finish.  As door designs become more modern, customers needed an alternative and the Urban and Inox cassette systems offer a particularly high end, modern, flush finish that creates the ultimate contemporary door.


Taking The Pain Away

To obtain perfection, these Urban and Inox demand a very strict installation procedure which is time consuming – some of the most complex designs take two to three hours.  This is a hard switch for our customers and many have said they struggling to justify the additional resource in their fast-paced manufacturing processes.  Our intention is to take the pain away, and to this end, we have set-up a dedicated glazing facility, with specialist equipment run by an expert team.

As part of the launch, we’ve also acknowledged that these products weren’t without their early issues, so we have worked with our supplier to develop the most secure contemporary cassette systems, made up of the best components.

“Urban has a combination of thermally broken aluminium and PVC-U, with a flush-fit exterior that sits on 3mm from the door surface. It is available in a woodgrain or smooth finish, in a range of colours including oak stains, full, half and square panels.  The aluminium finish is perfectly suited to the non-woodgrain, etched finish of LINKS. Inox is a high-grade stainless-steel cassette system, influenced by European style and available in ten different options.  Both these cassettes are complemented by a wide range of decorative glass options made from fused and etched glass.

“I made the move to DOORCO as wanted to challenge myself and progress,” explains Ben. “Having worked with them in my previous role at Business Micros on the implementation of the Business Management System, it was obvious they were a forward thinking supplier, with their customers at the heart of everything they do. The entire team is friendly and approachable, all with a real desire for success. My role as Technology and Projects Lead means I am responsible for overseeing and implementing any software or hardware related advances in technology and also head up any projects being worked on throughout the business. Four Years and Counting…

Lisa Fisher, Customer Services Advisor, celebrates her four-year anniversary as part of team DOORCO. Lisa was one of the original members of the team and comments on the changes she has seen through the growth of the business and Lisa Fisher 1what it’s like to work for DOORCO:

“When I joined DOORCO four years ago we were quite a small team, but since that time the team has grown significantly. Every area of the business has grown a lot and is continuing to do so, and although the teams are larger and busier, we work really well together. We have lots of new customers of all shapes and sizes, and particularly on distribution where I work. The number of slabs now despatched on a daily basis has increased significantly, which brings new challenges to the job. Throughout this growth the core values of the business and the directors have remained. We are bigger, better and more professional, but it still feels like a family run business. DOORCO has looked after me from the get-go and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else!”

When did you join (or start) the company?  January 2015

Describe your working day:  Up at 6am, sort breakfast for the kids, household chores, usually split the school run between Dan or I which involves over 1 hour trip through the Cheshire Countryside, usually get into the office for just before 9am on school run days, or 7.30am if not. Call via Costa for caffeine fix of the day and then crack on with checking emails, informal meetings and then get onto key items on my to list. I generally only work Mondays-Thursday so get to have Friday’s off.

What is your workspace like?  Try to keep it reasonably organised, but depends on how much other people leave on it for me to review!

First thing you do when you get to your desk?  Clear up any outstanding items left over from prior day, check the bank for payments and then emails.

What websites help you?  On a personal level The Body Coach – helps keeps me honest and motivated to stay fit! I regularly check BBC News and /or twitter to quickly keep up to date on whats going on in the world

Most useful business tool?  We Transfer – essential for me to help when doing marketing and image work.

Best business decision in your current role?  To make a conscious decision to invest heavily in IT and Technology, we are still early in our journey but I believe passionately that IT will help us improve all areas of our business and help drive future growth

Favourite role models and why?  My Mum and Dad – sounds cliché but it’s true. My mum is strong, wise, practical, offers sound advice, incredibly stylish, confident and totally selfless. She is the glue that holds the family together. My Dad is different again – driven, energetic, positive, funny, shrewd, good coach and incredibly caring. They are both happily married after over 50 years together and have taught me above all, the importance of give and take in a relationship.

How do you unwind?  On a weekday, there is nothing like a good dose of fractions or algebra homework to switch me out of work mode as I try and support the kids as much as my skills permit! On a more relaxing note, I try to go to the gym a couple of times a week (helped currently by my daughter joining me for moral support), but truthfully I love nothing better than either Friday night in front of the fire or Sunday afternoon lunch out with the family and a couple of glasses of wine …

Six months in to his role, Paul tells us what it’s like to work for the UK’s fastest growing, independently owned composite door manufacturer:

“Having worked in the fenestration industry for over 30 years, joining DOORCO has been a refreshing and exciting change.  This is mainly due to working directly for Dan & Jayne Sullivan, who not only own the business, but are hands-on leaders of a fantastic team.

As well as looking for new sales, my role is to service existing customer accounts and the people behind DOORCO make this very easy.  We are able to make decisions fast, without having to run everything by a board of directors, but most importantly, we are trusted to make those decisions and empowered to do our jobs. And this means when faced with a customer, or prospective customer, we discuss the best way to support that account, whether it’s with marketing support, a bespoke product portfolio or some of the best service in the industry.
